Celebrology

An emerging academic field — the scientific study of honour, coined by Sola Odumosu.

What is Celebrology?

Celebrology literally means the scientific study of honour. It is an emerging academic field that addresses the fundamental problem of indignity, thus restoring the dignity of humanity.

The word Celebrology was coined by the Nigerian-born intellectual genius, Sola Odumosu, from two classical linguistic roots:

celebrare Latin

Meaning: (to) honour
The root from which "celebrate" derives — the act of honouring and recognising worth.

logos Greek

Meaning: scientific study
The suffix used in most academic disciplines — biology, psychology, theology, etc.

By means of nominalization or conversion, the combination of these two roots produces Celebrology — literally, the scientific study of honour. This linguistic construction follows the same pattern as other established academic disciplines.

Why Celebrology Matters

Celebrology is valued for its intellectual explorations and activistic involvement in our world in pursuit of human dignity. It is an intellectual search for human dignity — one of the most pressing and universal needs of our time.

The world is marked by pervasive indignity: oppression, discrimination, injustice, violence, and the systematic denial of human worth. Celebrology proposes that at the root of all these problems lies a failure of honour — a failure to recognise, respect, and affirm the inherent worth of human beings.

Celebrology is an emerging academic field of study in the world and a new thinking revolution that addresses the fundamental problem of indignity, thus restoring the dignity of humanity.

The Academic Landscape

Celebrology is an emerging field, which means it is still in the process of establishing its theoretical frameworks, methodologies, and institutional presence within the global academy.

Celebrology International is actively working to:

  • Develop peer-reviewed academic journals for Celebrological research
  • Build a body of literature through books, articles, and working papers
  • Engage universities and academic institutions to incorporate Celebrology into curricula
  • Host conferences, symposia, and workshops to advance the field
  • Train scholars, practitioners, and advocates in Celebrological methods
